During these challenging times, we send you and your families our best wishes.

Having supported Macs for over 30 years it has taught us that Mac issues do not respect lockdowns or global pandemics, they just happen regardless.

At Dejac we are determined to maintain our high standards of support to the Mac business community whilst abiding by the UK government’s social distancing guidelines. This can be achieved in several ways including helpdesk Mac support, remote consultancy and doorstep collections for repairs.

Please get in touch if there is any Mac issue you would like us to address on 01494 809551 or [email protected]

How to dispose of your old Mac properly

We all have a few old Mac computers gathering dust in the corner of the office or cluttering the under-stairs cupboard but the likelihood of them ever seeing active service again is probably never. So how do you de-clutter and dispose of them ethically and securely?

First, all your data is probably still sitting on the hard drive, so this needs to be safely erased.
If the old Mac has a Mac OS X version 10.7 or later then you can do a secure erase by starting it up from the recovery partition by following this guide : http://www.soundsupport.biz/2014/11/23/use-the-recovery-partition-to-securely-erase-your-macs-hard-drive/
If your Mac is running Mac OS X 10.6 or earlier then you will need to find the original startup discs that came with the Mac and can do a secure erase using this guide : http://www.soundsupport.biz/2010/10/10/how-to-securely-erase-a-macs-hard-drive/

Once your data is securely erased you can then dispose of the old Mac in one of the following ways:
1) Pass on to a friend or relative. Although if the Mac was of no use to yourself it may not be of any practical use to anyone else.
2) Sell on the second-hand market. There is a specialist market for old second hand Macs, however, you need to be very clear in your description of your item detailing any faults as misrepresentation could come back and haunt you.
3) Take to the local council operated domestic waste disposal site and leave in their electrical section.
4) Advertise on your local FreeCycle group. www.freecycle.org
5) Pass onto a professional computer recycling company who may use for parts and spares or ship for use to third world countries.
6) Let Dejac dispose of it on your behalf. We will securely erase or shred the hard drive and dispose of the unit in one of the above methods. We charge £10.00 for the collection of your Mac and £10.00 for the secure erase/destruction of its hard drive.

If you would Dejac to safely dispose of your old Macs then please email us via the contact page with brief details of the Mac(s) and we'll arrange a day and time to collect.
