SOHO VoIP telephone solution

For a moderate outlay and a little bit of know-how, you can have a super-cheap telephone solution that will enable you to make crystal clear VOIP calls at a fraction of the cost of traditional calls. In addition, you will be able to make two calls simultaneously and should your broadband fail, the system will automatically kick you back to your conventional BT phone line.

How is all this achieved? At the heart of this solution is a Thomson broadband router (£50) which will replace your existing broadband router but still connects your devices to the internet. You will also need to subscribe to a VOIP service, typically about £5 a month (Dejac recommends Zen Broadband Voice). This will give you 1000 minutes of calls per month to UK landlines at no extra cost and seriously cheap overseas calls. The last bit of hardware you will need, you have already....your current phone(s).

A picture paints a thousand words, so this is how all the connections are made : http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/KnowledgebaseArticle.aspx?articleid=10882

Plumb all this together (it is easier than you think) and you can start enjoying significantly cheaper telephone calls.
